John David Crow ( born July 8, 1935 in Marion, Louisiana ) is an American former American football player and coach. He played as a running back in the National Football League ( NFL) for the Chicago / St. Louis Cardinals and the San Francisco 49ers.

Playing career

College career

John David Crow attended Spring Hill High School studied after finishing school from 1955 to 1957 at Texas A & M University for their football team, the Texas A & M Aggies, he played as a halfback. In his first year he won the Conference championship with his team. In 1957 he was elected to the All- American and also won the Heisman Trophy for the best college football player of the year. His College awarded him for his sporting achievements of three times.

Professional career

John David Crow was drafted by the Chicago Cardinals in 1958 in the first round in second place. In contrast to Crow, who has developed into a top player, his team did not come away from the bottom places in the table. Only in 1963 did the meantime moved to St. Louis Cardinals were able to win with him for the first time more games than lose. The balance of nine victories in five defeats but still was not enough for making the play -offs. 1965 Crow moved to the San Francisco 49ers. But his new Head Coach Jack Christiansen could not help to the coveted title Crow. After the 1968 season Crow ended his career. He also still holds with 84 yards space gain the best performance for the longest run in the history of Cardinals.

Coaching career

Immediately after his career, he took over the post of assistant coach at his old alma mater. In 1972 he became an assistant at the Cleveland Browns. In 1974 he moved to the San Diego Chargers, he left again a year later to Head Coach at the University of Louisiana at Monroe to become. From 1975 he took there in addition perceive the post of sporting director. In 1983 he was appointed to his old college as Deputy Director of Sport from 1988 to 1993 he was there the function of the Director of Sport. After his retirement, he was involved in a dog race track. Until 2001 he also acquired donor for the Texas A & M University.

Family

John David Crow is married, has two daughters and spends his life in College Station, Texas. His son came in 1994 in a traffic accident.

Honors

Crow played four times in the Pro Bowl and was elected three times to the All Pro. He is a member of the College Football Hall of Fame and the NFL 1960s All- Decade Team.
