John Diercks

John Diercks ( born April 19, 1927 in Montclair, New Jersey) is an American composer and pianist.

Diercks studied at Oberlin College, the Eastman School of Music and the University of Rochester. His teachers were Bernard Rogers, Howard Hanson and Alan Hovhaness. This is followed by a study of Asian music at Dorothy Kahanui and Halla Huhm at the University of Hawaii joined.

From 1950 to 1954 taught Diercks piano at the College of Wooster, after that its up to 1990 permanent teaching began at Hollins College in Virginia. Here he taught composition and music theory and was from 1962 head of the music department.

In addition to some church music choral works Diercks composed mainly chamber music and numerous piano works.
