John Doeg

John Thomas Godfray Hope Doeg ( born December 7, 1908 in Guaymas, Sonora, Mexico, † April 27, 1978 in Redding, California ) was an American tennis player.

Career

Doeg won the 1930 U.S. Open at Forest Hills, after the tennis legend Bill Tilden defeated in the semifinals. 1929 and 1930 he won the U.S. Open with George Lott also the men's doubles. In 1930, he was standing with Lott at Wimbledon in the doubles final, where they lost against Wilmer Allison and John Van Ryn.

Doeg was left-handed and a specialist in the serve-and - volley game. He was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 1962.
