John Donnell Smith

John Donnell Smith ( born June 5, 1829 in Baltimore, † December 2, 1928 ) was an American botanist and plant collector. Its official botanical author abbreviation is " Donn.Sm. "; earlier was also the abbreviation " J. D. Sm " in use.

Smith received in 1905 a position as Honorary Associate at the United States National Herbarium, which is operated by the Smithsonian Institution. This position he held until his death in 1928. Smith was an expert on the flora of Central America. He bequeathed his herbarium and his library of the Smithsonian Institution.

Ehrentaxon

According to him, the plant genus Donnellsmithia JMCoult was. et Rose ex J.M.Coult. named.
