John Edmondson (musician)

John Edmondson ( born February 3, 1933, Toledo, Ohio) is an American composer.

His studies he graduated from the University of Florida in 1955 with a Bachelor of Art and at the University of Kentucky in 1960 with a Master of Music in composition class, where he studied with Kenneth Wright and R. Bernard Fitzgerald. He then lectured at the Kentucky Academy for 10 years in music. Just like Paul Yoder his main interest was the college wind bands, for which he wrote educational works.

For quite a number of university marching bands ( University of Kentucky Wildcat Marching Band, Syracusse, Kentucky Morehead State, Eastern Kentucky State Louisville ) he arranged works. Even as a solo trumpeter and pianist, he played at various concerts. He spent the next 10 years in Miami Beach, Florida, as a publisher of school orchestra literature. Together with Paul Yoder, he also wrote the Fun Way Band Method and expelled them from the publisher, for which he worked responsible. He then moved to Wisconsin to be there as well to act as Principal in Charge for Concert Band Publications of a major U.S. music publishing company.

He is married to the composer and flutist Anne McGinty and lives with her in Scottsdale, Arizona, where both are working as freelance composers and arrangers.
