John Edwards (Kentucky)

John Edwards ( * 1748 in Stafford County, Virginia, † 1837 in Paris, Kentucky) was an American politician who represented the state of Kentucky in the U.S. Senate.

John Edwards moved to Fayette County in 1780, which was at that time still a part of the State of Virginia, and was employed there as a planter. From 1781-1783 and 1785-1786 he was a deputy in the House of Representatives from Virginia. In 1788 he was a member of the Commission, which established the boundaries for the future state of Kentucky; Four years later he took part in the Assembly, which created the State Constitution for Kentucky.

After recording, Kentucky to the Union Edwards and John Brown were the first two U.S. senators from the new state. Both took office on June 17, 1792; Edwards ' time in the Senate ended on March 3, 1795, while Brown remained there until 1805.

After his retirement from Congress Edwards has been a deputy in the House of Representatives of his State in the same year; 1796-1800 he was then in the Senate from Kentucky. After he retired from politics. He died in 1837 at his plantation in Bourbon County.
