John Evershed

John Evershed ( born February 26, 1864 in Gomshall, Surrey, England; † November 17, 1956 in Ewhurst, Surrey, England ) was a British astronomer. He was the first who observed the radial movement of sunspots, a phenomenon known as the Evershed effect ( Evershed also Abetti effect, according to Giorgio Abetti ) is known.

Evershed was recorded in 1915 as a member ( "Fellow" ) to the Royal Society. In 1918 he was awarded the Gold Medal of the Royal Astronomical Society. The Evershed Crater on the Moon is named after him.
