John Exley

John Exley (* May 23, 1867 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, † July 27, 1938 in Milford, Delaware) was an American rower and two-time Olympic champion.

He grew up in the prairies and built a cattle trading company on. The work with the cattle could develop his physique and when he returned to Philadelphia, he was spotted by a coach, where his massive upper arms are noticed. Exley began rowing training and was known as the "Iron Man" known.

He was batsman in the aft of the Vesper Boat Club of Philadelphia with coxswain Louis Abell. With this he won at the Olympic Games in Paris in 1900 and four years later at the Summer Games in St. Louis the gold medal. With the same team as 1900 in Paris, he also won the national championship of 1902.

With the rowing he continued it until 1912, before he again turned to the life on the farm.
