John Fieldhouse, Baron Fieldhouse

Admiral John David Elliott Fieldhouse, Baron Fieldhouse, ( born February 12, 1928 in Leeds, † 17 February 1992 Southampton ) was a British peer and chairman of the defense committee.

Life and career

Fieldhouse, son of Sir Harold Fieldhouse and Mabel Elaine Fieldhouse born Elliott, attended the Royal Naval College, Dartmouth. In 1944 he was a cadet in the British Navy, 1945 to ensign and in 1949 promoted to lieutenant and served in succession on several submarines.

British Navy

1956, after the commander School, took over Fieldhouse his first command on HMS Subtle. It was established in 1957 to lieutenant commander, promoted to Commander ( commander ) and 1967 sea captain ( captain ) 1961. 1972, with the rank of commodore, he took over the Standing NATO Maritime Group 1 and began working for the British Ministry of Defence. In 1978 he was appointed Rear Admiral and in 1980 a Knight Commander of the Order of the Bath New Year Honours. 1981 appointed Admiral, he commanded the Falklands invasion and in 1982 Knight Grand Cross of the Order of the Bath Knight Grand Cross Birthday Honours, and of the Order of the British Empire " in recognition of his services within the operations in the South Atlantic ". As a result, he persuaded the British government to replace the previous ships lost in the war. From 1982 to 1985 Field House was the first Sea Lord. His last promotion to Admiral of the Fleet was in 1985.

Later life

Fieldhouse ended his active service in December 1988, but continued working as a consultant for the shipbuilding companies Vosper Thornycroft. In 1992 he had to undergo heart surgery. He retired to an infection, in consequence of which he died.

Membership in the House of Lords

Field House was founded in 1990, a life peer as Baron Fieldhouse, of Gosport in the County of Hampshire.

Family

Fieldhouse married in 1953 Margaret Cull; the couple had one son and two daughters.
