John Fox (American football)

John Fox ( born February 8, 1955 in Virginia Beach, Virginia ) is a former American football player and current football coach. He currently coaches the Denver Broncos in the National Football League ( NFL).

Fox played among others at San Diego State University in the defensive backfield American Football. His coaching career began in 1985 in a short time existing United States Football League ( USFL ). In 1989 he moved to the NFL, where he was secondary coach for the Pittsburgh Steelers. He held this job later also with the San Diego Chargers. His positions as defensive coordinator were the Los Angeles Raiders and the New York Giants. He was head coach of the Carolina Panthers in 2002. Just one year later the team was able to move into the Super Bowl, where it defeated the New England Patriots.

Fox is considered one of the more conservative Head Coaches of the NFL. His winning percentage as a coach is 73-71 in the playoffs at 5-3. Fox is the second head coach, according to Vince Lombardi, who had a team that only scored a victory in a season, took over and in his second season leading into the Super Bowl.
