John Fraser (botanist)

John Fraser (* 1750 in the county of Inverness -shire, † May 3, 1811 in Chelsea ( London) ) was a Scottish nurserymen. Its official botanical author abbreviation is " Fraser ".

On behalf of the Russian Empress Catherine the Great, he collected plants. When he returned back to civilization, Russia had a new czar who wanted nothing to do with the order.

Fraser was Nurserymen in Chelsea. He led a North American plants he collected in America 1785-1796. During this period he became acquainted with Thomas Walter know and became friends with him.

The Fraser Fir (Abies fraseri ) and the mountain magnolia (Magnolia fraseri ) were named after him.
