John Frederick Lewis

John Frederick Lewis ( * July 14, 1805 in London, † August 15 1876 in Walton-on -Thames, Surrey, England) was a British painter. His works are attributed to the Orientalism.

Life

John Frederick Lewis spent most of his life abroad. He knew Italy and Spain, from 1840 to 1841 he stayed in the Balkans. He then spent ten years in Cairo, where he made numerous sketches. After his return to England in 1851 it emerged paintings. Finally, he was elected member of the Society of Painters in Watercolours. Until his death he lived in Walton-on -Thames.
