John Frederick Parker (United States Navy)

John Frederick Parker ( * 1853 in Ohio; † December 12, 1911 ) was an American naval officer. Between 1908 and 1910 he was military governor of American Samoa.

Career

John Parker was born in Ohio and graduated in 1874, the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis (Maryland). He then began a career as an officer in the U.S. Navy, where he attained the rank of captain. During the Spanish- American War of 1898, he was employed in Manila in the Philippines. One of his other functions was that of the Military Governor of American Samoa. This post he held between 21 May 1908 and 10 November 1910. He was married to Elizabeth Scott Lord, a niece of President Benjamin Harrison. During his term in office (1889-1893) Parker served as an aide on his staff. He died on 12 December 1911 into a kidney infection.
