John Gardner (Continental Congress)

John Gardner (* 1747 in South Kingstown, Rhode Iceland, † October 18, 1808 ) was an American farmer from South Kingstown and Narragansett in Rhode Iceland. He was delegate to the Continental Congress in 1789 for Rhode Iceland in the year.

Biography

Gardner was the son of Colonel John Gardner (1696-1770) and his second wife Mary ( Taylor) Gardner. During the American Revolutionary War, he served a military company named Kingstown Reds; In November 1775 he was captain of this company.

Gardner was several times, 1776-1791, also worked as a judge or as a justice of the peace. 1786 and 1787 he was a member of the Paper Money Party in the General Assembly of Rhode Iceland. This sent him in 1789 as a delegate to the Continental Congress.
