John Gebhard

John Gebhard ( born February 22, 1782 Claverack, New York, † January 3, 1854 in Schoharie, New York) was an American lawyer and politician. Between 1821 and 1823 he represented the State of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

John Gebhard was born during the War of Independence in Claverack and grew up there. During this time he attended public schools. He studied law. After receiving his license to practice law, he began to practice. Between 1811 and 1813, and 1815-1822, he worked as guardianship and estate Richter ( surrogate ) in Schoharie County. Politically, he was a member of the Federalist Party.

In the congressional elections of 1820 for the 17th Congress, he was in the 13th electoral district of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Harmanus Peek on March 4, 1821. He retired after the March 3, 1823 out of the Congress.

After his time Congress, he worked as a lawyer again. On January 3, 1854, he died in Schoharie and was buried at the St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery.
