John George II, Prince of Anhalt-Dessau

Johann Georg II, Prince of Anhalt -Dessau (* November 17, 1627 in Dessau; † August 7, 1693 in Berlin) from the House of Ascanians was reigning Prince of Anhalt -Dessau.

Life

He was the son of Prince Johann Casimir and Princess Agnes of Hesse- Kassel.

He married in 1659 to Henriette Catherine, a daughter of Prince Frederick Henry of Orange, and thus became a brother of the Elector Frederick William of Brandenburg.

After his father's death (15 July 1660), he took over the government in Anhalt- Dessau. The claims of his house on Ash life that was left to Brandenburg in 1648, he was upright and sat by that the candidature granted him out, but this had no practical significance.

He entered military service in Brandenburg, in 1670 appointed by the Great Elector to General Field Marshal, graduating in June 1672, the alliance between the Emperor Leopold I. and Brandenburg from Vienna. In this case both pledged to set up per 12,000 men under the command of the elector to maintain the Peace of Westphalia. 1674 gave him the Great Elector the governorship in the marrow, but lacked him troops to prevent the invasion of Sweden.

He then took part in the campaign of 1675 against Sweden, in 1679, he took the Brandenburg regiment Fargell walk. In 1683 he was sent to the emperor to Passau to ask the help of Brandenburg against the Turks in view, but inadvisable a war against France. In fact, he tried to strengthen the alliance between the Emperor and Brandenburg.

Johann Georg II was under the company name The Stuffed member of the Fruit -bearing Society. He died on August 7, 1693 in Berlin. He was succeeded by Leopold I, the Old Dessauer

Johann Georg II married Catherine of 1659 Henriette of Nassau-Orange. Of his ten children survived him five daughters and his successor, Leopold I:
