John George of Ohlau

Johann Georg von Wohlau ( Johann Georg von Ohlau and Wohlau; Czech Jiří January Volovský, Polish Jerzy January Oławski; * June 17, 1552; † July 6, 1592 in Ohlau ) was 1586-1592 Duke of Wohlau and 1586-1592 together with his brother Joachim Friedrich Duke of Ohlau.

Life

Johann Georg was the second son of Duke Georg II " the Pious " and his wife Barbara of Brandenburg, daughter of Elector Joachim II Hector of Brandenburg.

On September 16, 1582 married Johann Georg Anna of Württemberg, a daughter of Württemberg Duke Christoph. The couple had two children, both of whom lived only a few months: Georg Christoph (* May 13, 1583, † May 10, 1584 ) and Barbara ( born February 18, 1586 † April 16, 1586 ).

After the death of her father in 1586 Johann Georg inherited the Duchy Wohlau and together with his brother Joachim Friedrich the Duchy Ohlau. Both resided first in Ohlau as Joachim Friedrich had indeed inherited the Duchy Brieg, the city Brieg but her mother state as jointure.

Since 1592 Johann Georg died without offspring, inherited his brother Joachim Friedrich Wohlau the duchy, which he combined with his duchy Brieg. Johann Georg's widow Anna received city Ohlau as jointure. She lost her claims on Ohlau when she married in 1594 IV with Duke Frederick of Liegnitz again. Thus it fell to her brother Joachim Friedrich, so was able to unite the whole legacy of his father George II in his hand.
