John Goldthorpe

John Harry Goldthorpe ( born May 27, 1935 in Great Houghton, Yorkshire ) is a British sociologist. His best-known studies of the social structure, he published together with David Lockwood.

Goldthorpe studied at the University of London and the London School of Economics and Political Science and taught until his retirement as professor at Nuffield College, Oxford University.

He developed a model of the professional division, called the Goldthorpe class schema (English Goldthorpe class schema, also Erikson, Goldthorpe, Portocarero, short EGP).
