John Goss (composer)

Sir John Goss (* December 27 1800 in Fareham, † May 10 1880 in London since 1872, Sir) was an English organist and composer.

Goss studied with Thomas Attwood and in 1838 succeeded him as organist at St. Paul's Cathedral. At Goss ' own students include Arthur Sullivan and Frederic Hymen Cowen.

As a composer, he acts according to his contributions to Anglican church music. Songs such as O Saviour of the World and Praise, my Soul, the King of Heaven be loved singing in English churches, even in celebration of the royal family until today and impress listeners with their German hymnal solemnity.
