John H. Vandenberg

John Henry Vandenberg ( born December 18, 1904 in Ogden, Utah, June 3, 1992 † ) the ninth Presiding Bishop was the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter -day Saints.

Life

Vandenberg was born in 1904 in Ogden, Utah, the fifth child of a family of Dutch immigrants. He attended Weber Academy, where he made his degree in 1923. In 1925 he went as a missionary to the Netherlands. There he met his future wife, a convert Dutch, know. Back in Utah, the two were married on June 10, 1930 in the Salt Lake Temple. From this marriage two daughters were born. Vandenberg was now working in Salt Lake City for a company that is operating with sheep and their wool trade. Later, he was working for selbiges company in Denver, Colorado.

In 1961 he was appointed as the Presiding Bishop of the ninth Church of Jesus Christ of Latter -day Saints. As such, he was also a member of various church committees. 1972 he was appointed Assistant to the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. New Presiding Bishop Victor L. Brown was, former second counselor in the Presiding Bishop. As the Office of the Assistant to the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles was abolished in 1976, Vandenberg was a member of the First Quorum of the Seventy. In 1978 he became Professor Emeritus.
