John Hagans

John Marshall Hagans (* August 13, 1838 in Ville Brando, Schuylkill County, Virginia (now West Virginia), † June 17, 1900 in Morgantown, West Virginia ) was an American politician.

Hagans studied law at Harvard University. In 1859 he was admitted to the bar and practiced in Morgantown. From 1862 to 1864, and again in 1870 he was a prosecutor of Monongalia County. In the years 1866, 1867 and 1869 Hagans exercised the office of mayor of Morgantown. In 1871 he was a member of an Assembly which drafted the new constitution.

Hagans was elected as a Republican to Congress and represented there from March 4, 1873 until March 3, 1875 the state of West Virginia in the U.S. House of Representatives. Then Hagans was from 1879 to 1889 deputy in the House of Representatives from West Virginia. He died in 1900 in Morgantown and was buried in the Oak Grove Cemetery.
