John Hall (New York politician)

John Joseph Hall ( born July 23, 1948 in Baltimore, Maryland ) is an American musician and politician of the Democratic Party and was from 2007 to 2011 a member of the House of Representatives of the United States for the state of New York.

Biography

Hall was born in Baltimore. He took his degree in 1965 at Notre Dame High School in Elmira. After that, he was a student at the University of Notre Dame before he broke his education there and musician. Among other things, he worked with Janis Joplin and Bonnie Raitt. In 1972 he founded his band, which called itself Orleans. In 1977, he began a solo career, and two years later joined the Musicians United for Safe Energy (along with Tom Petty, Bruce Springsteen and others). He was then working as a songwriter for other musicians. On 3 May 2009 he performed at the celebration of the 90th birthday of Pete Seeger at Madison Square Garden.

John Hall was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives, representing the 19th District of New York Convention 2007. He succeeds Sue W. Kelly. The district includes parts of Dutchess, the orange, Rockland and Westchester County and the entire Putnam County. He was most recently a member of the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, the Committee on Veterans' Affairs and the Select Committee on Energy Independence and Global Warming. In the 2008 election, he successfully defended his seat against the Republican Kieran Lalor. His seat he lost in the 2010 election to Republican Nan Hayworth.

John Hall is married to Pamela Hall and lives in Dover Plains. He is Roman Catholic faith.
