John Hanna (Indiana)

John Hanna (* September 3, 1827 in Indianapolis, Indiana, † October 24, 1882 in Plainfield, Indiana ) was an American politician.

Hanna studied law at the Indiana Asbury University (now DePauw University as known) in Greencastle. In 1850 he graduated and was admitted to the legal profession. Hanna practiced in Greencastle. From 1851 to 1854 he was mayor of the city. Then he moved to Kansas. There he was a member of 1857 and 1858 the Parliament of the territory.

After returning to Indiana, he was there from 1861 to 1869 Attorney General. He was elected as a Republican to Congress and represented there the seventh election district of the state of Indiana on 4 March 1877 to 3 March 1879 the House of Representatives of the United States.
