John Hastings (Ohio)

John Hastings ( * 1778 in the Kingdom of Ireland, † December 8, 1854 in Hanoverton, Ohio ) was an American politician of the Democratic Party. From 1839 to 1843 he was a member of the House of Representatives of the United States for the 17th Congressional District of the State of Ohio.

Biography

John Hastings was born in Ireland. He emigrated to the United States; when this happened is not known. From then on, he worked in agriculture. In Lisbon, he studied law and was admitted to the bar. He moved to Mississippi to be working as a lawyer there. Later he returned to Ohio, accurate to Hanover Township, where he again became active in agriculture.

As representatives of the 17th Congress District of Ohio Hastings in 1838 elected to the U.S. House of Representatives. He sat there for a total of two terms. In 1843 he resigned from the Congress.

Hastings died in 1854 near Hanoverton. He was buried at the local Grove Hill Cemetery.
