John Haygarth

John Haygarth (* 1740 in Garsdale, † June 10, 1827 ) was a British physician. He described the placebo effect and went new ways to curb the spread of fever ( infectious diseases) and cowpox.

Early as 1799 Haygarth examined the effect of a time to be purchased for expensive money medical product, the " Perkins tractor ". This is ultimately just a simple metal rod and should " pull out " a disease can. Haygarth used wooden sticks with the same success, and proved such a way that you could save the money for the " Perkins Tractor " confidently. His discovery (placebo effect of the rods), he published in his book "On the Imagination as a Cause & as a Cure of Disorders of the Body. ".
