John Heard (actor)

John Heard ( born March 7, 1945 in Washington, DC ) is an American actor.

Life and achievements

Heard graduated in 1964, Gonzaga College High School in Washington (DC) and in 1968, Clark University in Worcester, Massachusetts. He made his debut as a film actor in the television drama from Valley Forge in 1975. In the comedy Head Over Heels (1979 ) he played the lead role. Another major role he played alongside Nastassja Kinski and Malcolm McDowell in the thriller Cat People (1982). For his role in the miniseries Tender Is the Night ( 1985) he was nominated for a 1987 CableACE Award. In the comedies Kevin - Home Alone (1990) and Kevin - Alone in New York ( 1992), he played the role of Peter McCallister, the father of Kevin McCallister, the Macaulay Culkin embodied.

In the thriller The Killer Brigade Heard played alongside Gene Hackman, Joanna Cassidy and Tommy Lee Jones and The Pelican Brief (1993 ), he starred opposite Julia Roberts in the role of an FBI agent. In the comedy Desert Blue (1998 ), he took over the role of Prof. Lance Davidson, the father of Skye Davidson (Kate Hudson). For his appearances in the television series The Sopranos and was nominated in 1999 for an Emmy Award. From 2005 to 2006 he appeared in ten episodes of the television series Prison Break.

Heard received 1976/77 a Theatre World Award for his role as Ivy Leaguer Micah Broad Street in GR Point, a play about the Vietnam War by David Berry.

Heard married in 1979, the actress Margot Kidder, of whom he was divorced in the same year. He later married Sharon Heard, with whom he has two children. With the actress Melissa Leo, was also romantically involved with, he has a son.
