John Heneage Jesse

John Heneage Jesse (* 1808 in London, † July 7, 1874 ) was an English historian and writer.

Jesse ( pron. dschess ') has held for many years a job at the Admiralty. Already in 1829 he had a poem about Mary Stuart, and soon after another band verses: Tales of the Dead ( 1830) was published.

As a result, he turned to the history and biography with anecdotal flavor to. He wrote:

  • The court of London from the revolution in 1688 to the death of George II (1843, 3 vols );
  • George Selwyn and his contemporaries ( 1843-44, 4 vols );
  • Literary and historical memorials of London (1847, 2 vols, new series, 1850, 2 vols ); Richard III. and his contemporaries (1861 );
  • London, its Celebrated characters and remarkable places (1870, 3 vols );
  • Memoirs of Celebrated Etonians (1875, 2 vols ), etc.

As his most important work, the Memoirs of the life and reign of George III apply. (1867, 3 vols ).
