John Huarte

John Gregory Huarte ( born April 6, 1944 in Anaheim ) is a former American football player.

He was active as a quarterback for the Fighting Irish of the University of Notre Dame between 1962 and 1964 in college football and in 1964 awarded the Heisman Trophy for the best player. He is the sixth player in the history of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, who received this award. He is considered one of the most extraordinary Heisman winner in the history of college football, as he was injured moved up until his final year at university in the starting lineup of the Fighting Irish, which was acquired in the same year of head coach Ara Parseghian.

John Huarte was selected Jets in 1965 both in the NFL Draft by the Philadelphia Eagles and the AFL Draft by the New York. He played in 1965 in the American Football League ( AFL) initially for one season for the Jets before leaving for the Boston Patriots was 1966/1967 likewise active in the AFL. In 1968 he joined the National Football League ( NFL) for the Philadelphia Eagles. From 1969 to 1971 he played in the NFL with the Kansas City Chiefs and 1972 for the Chicago Bears. In the years 1974/1975 he was active with the Memphis Southmen in the short-lived World Football League.

Since the end of his professional career, he is active as a business owner of a represented in several states tiles and marble retail chain. He is married and the father of five children. In 2005, he was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame.
