John Hyrcanus I ( Yohanan Hyrcanus, יוחנן הורקנוס, Ιωάννης Υρκανός ) was a Hasmonean ruler, 134 BC. Simon succeeded, and reigned until his death in 104.

John Hyrcanus was the third son of Simon Thassi, in February 135 BC. was killed along with his two oldest sons, Mattathias and Judah by his son Ptolemy Abubi at a banquet. John Hyrcanus succeeded his father as ethnarch of Judea and in the office of high priest.
