John I, Count Palatine of Simmern

John I of Pfalz- simmering ( born May 15, in 1459 Starkenburgring; † January 27, 1509 in Stark castle ) was Count Palatine and Duke of simmering.

Life

Johann was the son and successor of Frederick I of simmering (1417-1480) from his marriage with Margaret of Egmond (1436-1486), daughter of Duke Arnold of funds.

John I cared amplified by the expansion of the residence simmering. He laid the foundation stone for the church of St. Stephen (or expanding a predecessor ), and the town hall. In addition, he is responsible for the completion of the Franciscan St. Wolfgang ( Franciscan mendicant ) in Bad Kreuznach.

In 1480 he inherited from his father - simmering Sponheim. In the Landshut War of Succession succeeded Johann neutrality to preserve what his country, in contrast to the Palatinate, before Cataclysm preserved. He could expand his country to parts of the front County of Sponheim in addition as a result of the war.

Marriage and issue

Johann married in 1481 Susanne ( 1464-1521 ), daughter of Count Johann II of Nassau -Saarbrücken, with whom he had the following children:
