John II, Count of Dreux

John II, called the Good ( le Bon ) (* 1265, † 1309) was a Count of Dreux, Montfort l'Amaury and Braine and Lord of Montpensier. He was a son of Count Robert IV of Dreux and his wife, Beatrix of Montfort.

Johann took part in the Flanders war of King Philip IV of France. In the army of Count Robert II of Artois in 1297 he was among the conquests of Cassel and Béthune here, fought victoriously at Furnes (August 20 ) against a Flemish- German contingent under William of Jülich and moved into Lille (August 26 ). On 11 July 1302 Johann fought in the disastrous Battle of the Golden Spurs in Kortrijk ( Courtrai ), but also in 1307 in the victorious battle of Mons -en- Pévèle. Then took part in the peace negotiations.

After his death in 1309 he was buried in the Abbey of Longchamp.

Johann married in 1292 Joan of Beaujeu († 1308), daughter and heiress of Humbert II of Beaujeu - Montpensier, by which he inherited in 1303 the rule of Montpensier. Their children were:

  • Peter (* 1298, † November 3, 1345 ), Count of Dreux

A second marriage concluded in 1308 with Johann Perenelle of Sully ( † about 1336 ), daughter of Sire Henry III. Sully. With her he had one daughter:

  • Johanna II (* 1309, † 1355 ), Countess of Dreux; ∞ with Ludwig, Viscount of Thouars († 1370 )
