John II of Castile

John II of Castile ( born March 6, 1405 in Toro, † July 20, 1454 in Valladolid ) was King of Castile and León.

Life

Johann was the son of Henry III. and his wife Catherine of Lancaster, daughter of John of Gaunt, 1st Duke of Lancaster and Constance of Castile. He succeeded his father on 25 December 1406 at the age of 22 months. During his minority, his mother and his uncle Ferdinand of Antequera led the government. This double regency proved to be very conflictual and divided the country into two camps.
