John III of Egmont

Johann III. of Egmond ( born April 3, 1438 Hattem; † August 21, 1516 in Egmond ) (also: Manke JAN) Mr. von Baer, Lathum, Hoogwoude and Aarstwoude, and Mr. Purmerend, Purmerland and Ilpendam. He was governor of Holland, Zeeland and West Friesland and the first Count of Egmond. It is heir to the elder branch of the House of Egmond.

He was the eldest son of William of Egmond (1412-1483) and his wife Walburg von Moers.

Life

Like his father, he supported the Burgundian party in the struggle for power in money. When Charles the Bold 1472/73 took power there, he made ​​him the governor of West Friesland and in 1474 governor of Arnhem.
