John IV of Egmont

John IV of Egmond (* 1499, † April 29, 1528 in Milan ) was the second Count of Egmond and recipient of the Order of the Golden Fleece. He was lord to Hoogtwoude, Aartswoude and Baar.

He is the son of John III. of Egmond (1438-1516) and his wife Magdalena by Will Berg ( 1464-1538 ).

Life

Johann was born in one of the wealthiest families in Holland. At 17 he was married to the heiress of James II of Luxembourg - Fiennes. At the same time he was chamberlain of Emperor Charles V. The family Luxembourg - Fiennes had large dominions in Artois and Picardy, as Auxy -le -chateau, Vennes, Montorgueil, Dompierre, Estouyes, Flavy, Fontaine- sur- Somme, Basentin, Averdoing, in the County of St. Paul, barony Fiennes, in Boulonois, the county Gavere on the Scheldt between Oudenaarde and Ghent, the great reign Armentieres and Erquinghem on the Lys near Lille, the barony Sotteghem, in the land of Aelst, the rule Cantaing, one of the Pairien of Cambray, Hamaide, in Hainaut, the great reign Vierde far from Charlemont.

The Count held mostly on in the wake of the emperor. Meanwhile, Charles of Egmond did infest the land and destroyed the village of Egmond. The castle was but successfully defended by his brother John of Wassenaar.

1527, he was made commander of the light cavalry Emperor of Naples and Milan. On one trip he fell ill and died shortly thereafter in Ferrara in Milan.

Family

He was married in 1516 to Frances of Luxembourg, Countess of Gavre, Dame de Fiennes († November 1, 1557 ), daughter of James II of Luxembourg - Fiennes. The couple had the following children:
