John IV of Saxe-Lauenburg (prince-bishop)

John IV of Saxe- Lauenburg (* 1483 ();? † November 20, 1547 ) was a Bishop of Hildesheim.

The son of Duke John IV of Saxe- Lauenburg was after his brother and predecessor, Erich had 1503 resigned in his favor, was elected Bishop of Hildesheim.

1504 after the election acknowledgment by Pope Julius II John stepped to the rule in the pen. On January 28, 1506 Bishop received from the States General the approval of the collection of Landbede, a tax.

In his experiments, the dominion, the diocese expand, he came again and again together with the dukes of Brunswick- Lüneburg. Inside, too, there were conflicts with the city of Hildesheim and the self- conscious pen needle. The diocese of Hildesheim became more and more debt.

John IV tried to consolidate again the episcopal sovereignty in the Bishopric of Hildesheim. In a few years it was possible to save as much to him that he was able to solve the pledged goods and castles of the nobles pin. These refused to accept the Einlösesumme. Only in 1518 were the regalia conferred by Emperor Maximilian John.

He is the main character in the Hildesheim pin feud. Bishop John of Hildesheim found asylum Elector Joachim of Brandenburg, hoping in vain for his reinstatement. In the summer of 1527, he resigned and went exempt from the eight, determined as canon to Ratzeburg, where he died in 1547.
