John Joe Nevin

John Joe Nevin ( born June 7, 1989 in Mullingar, County Westmeath, Ireland) is an Irish boxer. He won at the World Championships in 2009 and 2011 and the bronze medal at the 2012 Olympic Games in London, the silver medal in the bantamweight. Since 2010 Nevin fights for Paris in the World Series of Boxing. In 2013 he was European champion.

Career

John Joe (Joseph ) Nevin began as a teenager with the boxes. He is a member of the Cavan amateur box club (ABC). He is coached by Brian McKeown. In the Irish national team, he is looked after by Billy Walsh.

The career of John Joe Nevin began in 2006. This year he was Irish Junior Champion ( U-21 ) in the weight class up to 48 kg body weight ( paper weight). However, he won this title without a fight, because no other Irish boxer was in this light weight category at the start. In the same year, his international career began. He finished at the Junior World Championships in Agadir in the paper weight with wins over Dimitar Dimitrov from Bulgaria and Constantin Parasdiew from Romania and one defeat in the quarter- final against Luis Yanez from the United States, the 5th Place.

John Joe Nevin 2007 Irish Junior Champion (U 19). He was there in the final of the flyweight demolition winner in the fourth round of Probjoj Singh. At the Junior Championship of the European Union in 2007 in Warsaw, he lost in the quarterfinals against Oualid Belaouara from France just after points ( 20:20 ) and therefore also landed in this championship on the 5th Place.

In 2008, John Joe Nevin had grown at a size of 1.70 meters in the bantamweight ( weight category up to 54 kg body weight). In that year he was first Irish champion in the seniors, taking in the semifinals Ryan Lindberg (17:12 ) and in the final TJ Doheny ( 8-3 ) beat on points. Also in the qualification tournament for the 2008 Olympic Games in Pescara he had a tournament win bantamweight. He defeated among others the big favorites Detelin Dalakliew, Vice European Champion of 2006, from Bulgaria to points ( 16:15 ) and prevented dedurch its start in the Olympics.

John Joe Nevin won the 2008 in Cetniewo / Poland then also the title of champion of the European Union bantamweight. In the final he defeated while Mateusz Mazik from Poland convincingly on points ( 11:4 ). At the Olympic Games in Beijing, he won his first fight in over Abdelhalim Ouradi from Algeria on points ( 9:4 ), but was defeated in the second round against Enchbatyn Badar - Uugan from Mongolia, who later also became Olympic champion, on points ( 2:9 ).

In 2009, John Joe Nevin repeated in the Irish Cup with a clear points victory over Ryan Lindberg (15:1) Gewonn his title from last year. In the championship of the European Union in Odense him this feat did not succeed, because he lost in the final battle against bantamweight Denis Makarov from Germany on points ( 7:9 ). In 2010 he competed at the European Championships in Moscow. He defeated there bantamweight Karen Ailasjan from Armenia and Nordine Ait - l tha Ilya from France on points, but lost in the quarterfinals against Gamal Yafai from England on points ( 1:7 ) and thus missed in 5th place just a medal. In the winter of 2010/11 he started for " Paris United" in the newly founded by the AIBA World Series of Boxing. He came here, inter alia, to wins over Vincenzo Picardi, Milan and Selcuk Eker, Istanbul, as he was defeated by Vittorio Parinello from Milan. In April 2011, he won the 28 Feliks strain Memorial in Warsaw and came to this point victories over Vyacheslav Goschan, Moldova ( 8:7 ), Gamal Yafai ( 10:9 ) and Dawid Michelus from Poland ( 11:7 ).

At the European Championships 2011 in Ankara he fared as at the European Championships 2010. According victories over Pawlo Ishchenko, Ukraine ( 19:13 ) and Nikoloz Izoria from Georgia ( 15:10 ), he again lost in the quarterfinals and indeed against Dimitri Polyansky from Russia ( 12:13 ) and thus came at featherweight again only on the 5th Place.

In the same year he also took part in the World Most properties part and secured with victories against Akhil Kumar, India ( 21:14 ) Dorjnyambuu Otgondalai, Mongolia (18 18 ), and Orzubek Shayimov, Uzbekistan, and a semi-final defeat to eventual runners-up Luke Campbell, England 12 : 12 bronze, and thus also a quota place at the 2012 Olympic Games in London bantamweight. At the Olympics, he won in the first round against the Danes Dennis Ceylan 21:6 and in the second round against the Kazakhs Kanat Abutalipow 15:10. In the quarterfinals, he sat down with 19:13 against the Mexicans Óscar Valdez through and thus the semi-finals, where he defeated the Cuban favorites Lázaro Álvarez 19:14. However, in the final he defeated local hero Luke Campbell with 14:11 and thus won the silver medal.

In the 2012/2013 season Nevin fought for the British Lionheards in the World Series of Boxing and was in the group stage against Daouda Sow, France, winning, losing, even against the Serbs Branimir Stankovic.

In June 2013, he won the European Championships in Minsk.
