John K. Tarbox

John Kemble Tarbox (* May 6, 1838 in Lawrence, Essex County, Massachusetts, † May 28, 1887 in Boston, Massachusetts ) was an American politician. Between 1875 and 1877 he represented the state of Massachusetts in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

John Tarbox enjoyed a good education and worked in the newspaper business. After a subsequent law degree in 1860 and its recent approval as a lawyer, he began to work in this profession. During the Civil War he served as a lieutenant in an infantry unit from Massachusetts, which belonged to the army of the Union. Politically, he joined the Democratic Party. In the years 1868, 1870 and 1871 he was a member of the House of Representatives of Massachusetts; In 1872 he sat in the state Senate. From 1873 to 1874 he served as mayor of Lawrence.

In the congressional elections of 1874 Tarbox was in the seventh election district of Massachusetts in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Ebenezer R. Hoar on March 4, 1875. Since he has not been confirmed in 1876, he was able to complete only one term in Congress until March 3, 1877. In the years 1882 and 1883 Tarbox was urban lawyer in Lawrence. Subsequently, he served from 1884 to 1887 as an insurance commissioner of the state government of Massachusetts. He died on 28 May 1887 in Boston and was buried in Lawrence.
