John Kennedy (DJ)

John Kennedy ( born June 1, 1965) is a British radio DJ who is known primarily for his weekly broadcast Up From The Underground at BFBS Radio Germany in Germany.

Life

John Kennedy worked during his studies at Thames Valley University as a disc jockey and held together with a friend in London a regular club night called Plastic Factory. He also volunteered at the local cable station Radio Thamesmead.

In 1991, he learned to play the Reading Festival Sammy Jacobs know, a former operators of pirate radio stations, who had just received a license for the operation of the radio station XFM. Kennedy was hired by Jacobs for the new channel, and today is the only moderator on the team who has since the early days there.

In his radio show X - posure ( Monday to Thursday 22 to 1 clock ) is John Kennedy before especially new groups and solo artists from the alternative and indie area. The spectrum of styles ranges from electronica to garage rock. Many bands in the meantime become known as Razorlight, Bloc Party or The Polyphonic Spree were presented on his show for the first time to a wider public. In tribute to the late John Peel, Steve Jelbert wrote on 14 October 2005 in the London Times, John Kennedy was the next musical equivalent of Peel.

Occurs once or twice a month Kennedy during the events X - posure in London and Manchester before audiences. For his live shows he was awarded the Time Out Live Award 2005 /06.

Presenter on BFBS

Since May 16, 2004 John Kennedy hosted at BFBS the weekly broadcast program Up From The Underground ( in Germany on BFBS Radio Sundays 22-0 clock ). The concept is similar to that of X - posure, with the difference that here is reminiscent of the indie sector also " classic". For the Underground Legends category was established. Up From The Underground is also popular with German listeners great popularity, of which numerous postings on the Internet testify.
