John Klingensmith, Jr.

John Klingensmith Jr. ( born March 26, 1786 Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, † February 8, 1854 ) was an American politician. Between 1835 and 1839 he represented the State of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

About the youth and education of John Klingensmith nothing is handed down. Between 1819 and 1822, and again from 1828 to 1831, he served as sheriff in Westmoreland County. In the 1820s he joined the movement to the future President Andrew Jackson and became a member of the Democratic Party, founded in 1828 by this. Between 1831 and 1835, he was a member of the Senate of Pennsylvania.

In the congressional elections of 1834 Klingensmith in the 19th Election District of Pennsylvania was in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Richard Coulter on March 4, 1835. After a re-election he was able to complete in Congress until March 3, 1839 two legislative sessions. After his time in the U.S. House of Representatives Klingensmith worked 1839-1842 as secretary of the Cadastral Agency ( Land Office ) of the State of Pennsylvania. He died on 8 February 1854.
