John Kluge

John Werner Kluge ( born September 21, 1914 in Chemnitz, Saxony; † 7 September 2010 in Charlottesville, Virginia ) was a German - American businessman.

As John Werner Kluge orphan emigrated at the age of eight years to Detroit, USA. During his school years he worked in a factory of Henry Ford to earn his living. After his high school graduation, he received a fellowship to study at Columbia University in New York City. There he received in 1937 the degree of Bachelor of Arts with a major in Business.

Since he had adopted American citizenship after arriving in the U.S., he had from 1941 to 1945 during World War II for the U.S. army to go to war.

In 1946, John Werner Kluge, the media company Metromedia in New York, which performed well. Within a few years the company belonged own radio and television stations and other media outlets. He led the at the time as the largest independent radio stations group, the U.S. current company until 1985 and then sold it to Rupert Murdoch.

His personal fortune was estimated in 2006 to 14 billion U.S. dollars, with which he was one of the 100 richest people in the world. With parts of his fortune, he supported the organization Youth for Understanding. He also paid scholarships for poor students, as he had been one.

John Werner Kluge lived most recently in fourth marriage and had three children.
