John Laurent Giles

John (Jack) Laurent Giles (* 1901, † 1969) was an English yacht designer. He drew his design office more than 1000 designs of cruisers, racing yachts to " mega-yachts ". At first he designed some elegant single buildings as the yawl Argo ( 1930). Later he was with the design of the 7.6 meter yacht Verdue known, of which 230 copies were built, as well as the Wanderer III. With the yacht Myth of Malham he was referring at that time knowledge of aviation into its design, which achieved yachts built to his designs in the regattas Fastnet Race 1947 and 1949 victories. In 1951, he changed with a new design of the Miranda IV, the conventional design of its yachts from the classic long keel to the modern design, by separating the keel and rudder in lateral plane of the vessel.

Laurent Giles put in his designs special emphasis on good course stability and special security. This is his yachts were in good as in heavy weather easily maneuver .. In 1951 he received the " Royal Designer for Industry", a 1936 award in England for efficient design award.
