John Lesley

John Leslie ( born September 29, 1527 Kingussie, Scotland, † May 31 1596 in Guirtenburg in Brussels) was a Scottish clergyman and bishop of Ross.

Life

Leslie was like many of his compatriots brought up in France and joined Mary I Stuart at. In 1566 he was ordained a bishop. After Mary's flight to England to Leslie held as an envoy of Mary at the court of Queen Elizabeth I. Tudor and was in 1571 because of his participation in the project marriage of Mary with Thomas Howard, 4th Duke of Norfolk arrested. Leslie broke then on to Rome, where he published in 1578 a history of Scotland. He spent most of his later life in France. Most of his writings were defending his queen.
