John Lloyd (tennis)

John Lloyd ( born August 27, 1954 in Leigh-on -Sea, Essex ) is a former British professional tennis player and current commentator.

Career

His biggest international success achieved Lloyd in 1977, when he reached the final of the Australian Open in Melbourne. There he was defeated by American Vitas Gerulaitis in five sets. However, he was the first British tennis player since the Open Era Begin was able to reach the final of a Grand Slam tournament. As a single player Lloyd won a Grand Prix title and reached position 21 his best finish in the ATP computer rankings. Greater success was in a double Lloyd, where he recorded two Grand Prix victories. In the mixed doubles Lloyd got together with Wendy Turnbull total of three Grand Slam singles titles, the 1982 French Open and the 1983 and 1984 tournament at Wimbledon.

Lloyd was one of eleven years to the British Davis Cup team. In 2006 he took over the post for four years as a team leader of the Davis Cup team of Great Britain.

Commentator

Since the 1990s, Lloyd worked as a commentator for the BBC, in particular at the annual tournament at Wimbledon.

Private

Lloyd was married to American tennis legend Chris Evert. Today Lloyd lives with his second wife and two children common in the U.S..
