John Lutterell

John Lutterell was Chancellor of Oxford University and ecclesiastical papal prosecutor in the trial of William of Ockham.

He was born in the late 13th century and probably died in 1335 in Avignon. Lutterell was 1317-1322 Chancellor of Oxford University. In the summer of 1322 he was dismissed at the request of professors from the University of competent bishop of Lincoln from his office. As an opponent of William of Ockham 1323, he traveled to the papal court at Avignon, where he presented an indictment against William, in which he accused him of heresy. In the subsequent trial against William, he represented the prosecution. Occam's teachings were partly explained by the court to be false, Ockham himself was not punished.
