John M. Dillon

John Myles Dillon ( born September 15, 1939) is an Irish classical scholar and philosopher. Dillon was 1980-2006 Regius Professor of Greek at Trinity College in Dublin. Previously, he taught at the University of California, Berkeley. Since 2010, Dillon is a corresponding member of the Academy of Athens. His research areas include the history of Platonism (of the Platonic Academy to the Renaissance ) and early Christianity.

He is the son of Myles Dillon.

Work

Among the most famous scientific works Dillons include his translation of Iamblichus On the Mysteries ( the Egyptians ), his book about the Mittelplatonismus and other works and translations to Neoplatonism ( Iamblichus next example Alkinoos Didaskalikos and Plotinus' Enneads ). Dillon's essays have been published in two anthologies, The Golden Chain (1990) and The Great Tradition ( 1997).

His first novel, The Scent of Eucalyptus ( The scent of eucalyptus), was published in 2007.
