John M. Wolverton

John Marshall Wolverton ( born January 31, 1872 in Big Bend, Calhoun County, West Virginia; † August 19, 1944 in Richwood, West Virginia ) was an American politician.

Wolverton studied at the Law Department of the West Virginia University in Morgantown. After he received his degree in 1901, he was inducted in the same year in the legal profession and commenced practice in Grantville. In 1904 he moved to Richwood. 1918 and 1919 he was mayor of that city. Previously, Wolverton was 1913-1917 prosecutor in Nicholas County. From 1921 to 1925 he held that post again.

Wolverton was elected as a Republican to the 69th Congress and represented there on 4 March 1925 to 3 March 1927 State of West Virginia in the U.S. House of Representatives. His reelection failed 1926. Wolverton was elected again until the 71st Congress and was on 4 March 1929 to 3 March 1931, the second time deputy in the U.S. House of Representatives. 1930, 1932 and finally in 1936 he ran for a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives. However, he could gain no further mandate. After retiring from politics, he began to practice in Richwood. Wolverton died 1944 in Richwood and was buried in the Odd Fellows Cemetery.
