John Macalpine

Johann Machabeus actually: John Mac Alpine or John MacAlpine, also: Maccabeus, Machabeus, Maccabe, Machabe, McBee, Macabaeus (* before 1500 in Scotland; † 5 / December 6, 1557 in Copenhagen) was a Scottish reformer and Protestant theologian.

Life

The a noble family that were found Machabeus studied at a Scottish university. He was from 1532 to 1534 prior of the Dominican convent in Perth, but had to when he was accused with Alexander Alesius and others of heresy, flee from Scotland. About England he came to Cologne, where he earned the degree of Bachelor of Theology at the university there. On November 25, 1540 he had enrolled at the University of Wittenberg, attended the lectures of Martin Luther and Philipp Melanchthon received here of the scholarly name Machabeus.

In Wittenberg he acquired on February 3, 1542 licentiate in theology and a doctorate on February 9, 1542 as a doctor of theology. He came for a point of theology at the University of Strasbourg considered, but was still in the year of his PhD at the University of Copenhagen, where he became a professor of theology. He read there on Romans, John's Gospel and Melanchthon's Loci communes. He was asked to come back to the homeland, but held him Christian III. of Denmark and Norway on this project. 1544/45 and 1549/50 he served as rector of the University of Copenhagen

From his marriage with Agnes Matheson 's son Christian Machabaeus (1541-1598) is known.
