John MacGregor (sportsman)

John MacGregor (* 1825, † 1892) was a Scottish travel writer and lawyer. He is regarded as the most important pioneer for the dissemination of canoeing in continental Europe.

In the 60s of the 19th century he undertook with his designated as Rob Roy Boat numerous trips to German rivers and made with its new boot sensation. These trips he held firmly in book form. His records are regarded as one of the most important sources for the study of the history of canoeing.

In 1866, MacGregor the Royal Canoe Club, which is the oldest canoe sports club in the world.
