John Maddox

Sir John Maddox ( born November 27, 1925 in Penllergaer, South Wales, † 12 April 2009) was a British chemist and science writer, editor of the journal Nature.

Curriculum vitae

Sir John Maddox studied chemistry and physics at Christ Church College in Oxford and King's College London. From 1949 to 1955 he taught theoretical physics at the University of Manchester. Until 1964 he held the position of the then science correspondent at The Guardian. From 1964 to 1966 he was coordinator of the " Nuffield Science Teaching Project " before he took over the post of editor of the journal Nature. He held from 1966 to 1973 and again from 1980 to 1995 this position. In between, he was from 1975 to 1979 director of the Nuffield Foundation.

In 1990 he studied with James Randi and Walter Stewart ( from the National Institutes of Health ) homeopathy research by Jacques Benveniste and showed serious errors in his experiments on.

Maddox was knighted in 1995 and received a 2000 Honorary Fellowship for research purposes of the Royal Society. Until his death, he was a supporter of the British Humanist Association. Maddox was also a member of the Committee for the Scientific Investigation of Claims of the Paranormal.

Maddox was married to Brenda Maddox. The marriage produced the daughter Bronwen Maddox and son Bruno Maddox.
