John Maeda

John Maeda (born 1966 in Seattle ) is a designer, author and president of the Rhode Iceland School of Design ( RISD ).

John Maeda is a graphic and interaction designers, and computer scientist who studied the link between design and technology again. He developed a variety of software tools, websites, writes books and holds at the MIT Media Lab and many other facilities lectures on the combination of these two important areas.

Life

Maeda received his Bachelor and Master of Science degree in computer science at MIT, his PhD in Design at the University of Tsukuba in Japan. Since 1996 he teaches at the MIT Media Lab and 2001 was there also Associate Director. There he directed along with Henry Holtzman the Physical Language Workshop. From 2004 to 2006 he took a sabbatical to a Master of Business Administration to gain. In June 2008, Maeda was appointed president of the prestigious RISD.
